Fall Cleanup Our Local Waterways

Sept 2nd, 9 am- 12 pm                                                                                                                   

You will kick-off Cleanup Our Local Waterways with a cleanup at the Conway Riverwalk Park and a Kindness Rocks Painting Party (see below).  

Conway Riverwalk Park is located at the end of Elm Street near the playground, we will be cleaning up the park and painting rocks across from the playground.  

Free kayaks are available for volunteers to assist in the paddle portion of the cleanup thanks to Gator Bait Adventure Tours! Visit their website to reserve a free kayak by clicking here. The boat launch is located under 501 Business/ Main St. bridge in Conway, SC.

From 9/2 through 9/16, we are asking all community residents to cleanup any areas along our Waterways in SC and NC. Storm water ditches also need to be swept for trash. Please upload pictures of your cleanup to our Facebook page or by tagging us #ProtectWinyahRivers and #CleanupOurLocalWaterways or #Cleanup with #WaccamawRiverkeeper. Please indicate the number of recycling and trash collected (# bags for both), location(s) cleaned and number of volunteers. You can also upload your haul to our Facebook group, Waccamaw River Cleanups Facebook Group.  All Adopt-a-Landing adopters should schedule a cleanup at their respective landings during our Cleanup Our Local Waterways two-week initiative.

All volunteers who cleanup on the Waccamaw River from 9/2 through 9/16 will receive a 1/2 off discounted price on registration for our Ride the Tide event and we have free meal tickets for the all you can eat Lowcountry boil for cleanup volunteers. Cleanup data must be entered in order to receive the discount.  Meal tickets are first come, first served, up to 20 will be awarded.

Please contact us if you have any questions.  We provide gloves, trash bags, pickers, stream team bags and first aide kits. Please contact us right away if you need cleanup supplies.

Ride the Tide/ River Sweep

Giving to Forward Together (GIFT) and Winyah Rivers Foundation would like to invite you to join us in our Ride the Tide/ River Sweep event!  Join together with family, friends, and your community for our fun-filled four mile float down the Waccamaw River.  The "ride" will begin at the Litchfield Plantation Marina and will end at Hagley Landing on Hagley Drive in Pawleys Island, SC.  Registration begins at 9:00 am, water blast off 10:00-11:00 am! Float with us on any non-motorized vehicle such as a tube, kayak, canoe, rent one from us or MAKE YOUR OWN FLOAT!  This event is open to any non-motorized flotation device.  Bring your kayaks, inner-tubes, canoes, or get creative and build your own raft! All participants will be required to wear a life jacket for the event.  A shuttle bus will be provided.   

To keep the fun going, GIFT will be hosting an ALL YOU CAN EAT LOW COUNTRY boil to include shrimp, mussels, clams, smoked sausage, corn, potatoes and beverages.  Live band entertainment featuring Stan Gregory, will kick off this party at 3:00pm and Perlino band to follow from 5:30-9:30pm.  Visit your Ride the Tide Events Page here to register.
